Fund Raising Ideas - thanks to The Orangutan Project for this list

  • Bike Ride Organize a sponsored bike ride around your local area. Map out a safe and appealing route. Get a local sponsor to provide drinking water and other refreshments at the end.
  • Themed Ball Dress up a local hall with a theme for an evening of dinner and music. Check your local costume hire place for ideas or base it on a movie such as Moulin Rouge. Requires time to plan and a budget.
  • Book Fair Everyone has books they’ll never read again. Collect books from the area and hold a book sale. Donate unsold books to charity or a local nursing home.
  • Dog Walk Organize a sponsored dog walk around your local area. Map out a route that’s good for the dogs and their owners. Have a bbq and sell refreshments at the end.
  • Football/Sports Match Organize a match with local businesses or schools. Perhaps invite a celebrity or two. Each team member can be sponsored and charge admission to the field.
  • Quiz/Trivia Night Hold one-time events or a regular series with a prize for the winners. If you have the budget, there are trivia kits available or professionals that will run the night for you. Ask at the local hotel or check the internet for suggestions.
  • Training or Coaching Sessions Provide training classes, clinics or coaching sessions to members and non-members for a fee.
  • Farmer’s Market Stall Sell donated items and local produce. Hire space at the local markets as a one-time event or on a regular basis if you have willing volunteers.
  • Barbeques and Refreshment Stalls at Events While people love a sausage sizzle, do some research. You may find one or your members or their families can produce a tasty vegetarian alternative. Or approach a local shop or two to donate in return for free advertising on the stall and in the newsletter.
  • Walk-a-thon, Run-a-thon, Bike-a-thon Friends and family can sponsor each child for every mile or kilometre they walk, run, roller blade, dance or ride. It’s a fantastic way for kids to get active.
  • Casual Clothes / Fancy Dress Day A casual clothes day or themed dress up day is always loads of fun. For a donation everyone can come as their favorite celebrity or book character. Great for schools and workplaces.
  • Auction your Boss Have a laugh at work while giving generously as the highest bidder has the boss running coffee errands for a day, filing or keeping the kitchen clean.
  • Garage or Yard Sale One person’s trash is another’s treasure. A weekend garage or yard sale are great fundraisers and an opportunity for everyone to spring clean their cupboards.
  • Art Exhibition Ask local artists, school or university students to donate artwork for sale or auction. You could also include a door fee and raffle to get the night humming.
  • Arts & Crafts Use your artistic talent for a good cause, organize a craft event or donate a % of your proceeds.
  • Auction Do something positive with those unwanted gifts, clear out the cupboards and sell/auction them. Use our eBay site to host the auction.
  • Bingo Get together with friends and family and have a bingo afternoon. Have a raffle with donated prizes.
  • Car Washing Grab some willing friends and get washing for a good cause.
  • Celebrate Have your next special occasion or milestone with the gift to orangutans.
  • Chocolate Ban Get sponsored for every day/week/month you can go without chocolate/sweets!
  • Coffee Morning Charge for coffee and home-made cakes and why not ask people to bring a paperback to be sold to a fellow coffee drinker for $1.00.
  • Orange Day “Wear to care” Get everyone at your work/school to all dress in orange.
  • Dinner Have a dinner party for friends and invite donations for the orangutans.
  • Donate an Hour’s Salary Get all your friend to work one hour for orangutans.
  • Drop those Pounds Need a little bit of extra motivation to lose that extra pound or two? Why not do it for a good cause?
  • Dry Month Get your friends/family to sponsor you to give up alcohol for a month.
  • Every Coin Counts Collect silver or gold coins at your workplace and ask customers, suppliers or friends and family to do the same.
  • Expeditions Great or small, to the mountains or the local watering hole, group expeditions can be sponsored, ticketed and team building events.
  • Family Fair Get the families together from around the neighborhood and sell tickets to play different games. Throw darts at balloons, have a sack race, or make up your own games.
  • Fashion Parade Fancy yourself as a bit of a fashionista? Why not grab a few friends and put on your own fashion show!
  • Foundation Idol Inspired by the popular “American Idol”, why not run a singing competition to find your top school/work Idol.
  • Fun Run Organize your own or find a locally organized event – you could even try it three-legged.
  • Games Day Have a day of games and fun with family and friends.
  • Guess the Weight/Number Of the cake, the teddy, the jar of sweets or coin.
  • Head Shave Shave your head in support of orangutans.
  • Home Alone Bid among your department for the prize of an extra day off work.
  • Horrible Hair Day Pay to wig out, or get sponsored for your bad hair wear.
  • Karaoke A chance to share your singing skills, pay for a song or pay for any exemption ticket.
  • Kite Flying Enjoy a picnic day with the family and bring your kite; charge a fee for entering the competition and see who can keep their kite airborne the longest.
  • Meals Sell sweets or baked treats around the office. If colleagues can’t come to you, why not walk around the office and go to them?
  • Music Event/Concert Got your own band, play an instrument or enjoy singing? Why not put on a concert or music recital?
  • Night at the Movies Have friends/family over for a movie night. Sell tickets and concessions to make it as authentic as possible!
  • One Day Fast Be sponsored to go without food for a day and donate the money you would have spent on food to orangutans.
  • Plant Sale Perfect for people with green fingers.
  • Raffle A traditional fundraising favorite.
  • Skip Lunch And donate your money, or for those who just can’t miss lunch, eat anyhow and donate the equivalent.
  • Skydiving Take fundraising to the extreme! Grab a few friends and get sponsored to do a sky dive.
  • Swear Box Any slip of the tongue is a coin in the box.
  • Bowling Test your skill in a sponsored bowl.
  • Treasure Hunt Write the clues to a treasure hunt by car, push bike or on foot. Be creative with the location and the prize at the end!
  • Wine and Cheese Reception at the local jeweler Ask a local jeweler to keep their doors open in the evening on behalf of the Foundation. Have them reduce the prices for the cause and you can have your friends and acquaintances come by for a couple hours after work to do some shopping, sample wine and cheese, and the merchant can turn over those savings to the Foundation.
